For almost 170 years, First Baptist Church has been known as a Great Commission Church! First Baptist is known as the birthplace of the Cooperative Program, the economic engine adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention which has generated millions of dollars to support missionaries all over the world. Each year, decisions are made to pray, go, and give to various mission opportunities.
Listed below are some of the strategic partnerships in obedience to the Great Commission:
Brazil Amazon Mission Trip – Since the early 1900’s, FBC has supported missionaries and churches throughout the Amazon Valley. Teams from FBC make frequent trips to hard to reach places up various tributaries, sharing the love of Christ and meeting practical needs. Medical and construction needs are addressed while practical theological training is given to key leaders of the churches. This past trip, a water purification system was installed, enhancing the health of the entire community.
Zimbabwe – One of the poorest countries in the world, FBC has made several trips to help with ministry to university students, the future leaders of this country. FBC has touched the sick in hospitals, given hope to those in orphanages, and delivered buckets of HOPE filled with practical care and medical supplies, to those dying of AIDS.
Orphan’s Heart – Affiliated with the Florida Baptist Convention, Orphan’s Heart is a ministry that touches the least of these primarily in the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa. First Baptist is a strategic partner in the building of Community Transformation Centers and homes.
Baptist Global Response – BGR is a front line responder to the devastation around the world as a result of war, famine, and natural disasters. Working with strategic Gospel partners around the world, BGR is a great platform that demonstrates a practical expression of love in the name of Jesus.
First Loves Murray – is a picture of natural expressions of love by meeting practical needs within our own community. Needs met throughout the year remind our school children and others that there are people who care.
Other mission expressions include: International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, state missions, Baptist Campus Ministry, Navigators, church plant support, World Hunger, Gideon Bible Distribution Ministry, Sunrise Children’s Home, Life House, Bright Life Farm, Community Kitchen, New Beginnings, Haiti ministries, Murray Main Street, Mexico, and more.
